The Remind Me WordPress plugin is the ultimate deep linking plugin available to WordPress users. A deep link is a link from one of your posts to another post on your website. Instead of always linking to your home page, deep linking allows you to build authority on various posts you’ve already written. This authority increase results in more traffic coming to these posts from search engines. In other words, instead of always battling to get your home page to rank well Google, you’ll now be able to rank all your articles on Google.

Once the plugin has been uploaded and activated, you will see a special area below where you write your posts, which will provide you with a list of posts related to the post you’re currently writing. I’m sure you’ve been writing an post before and had the big mission of tracking down the link to a previous post you wrote on a similiar topic. I know I’ve been there and it’s a big mission – Remind Me solves this!

Remind me will provide you with related articles based on Titles, Post Content, Tags and Categories, thus returning really good related articles. Linking from one post to another post of similiar content is not only hugely beneficial for SEO, but also a fantastic way to keep your visiter interested and increase your page views.

Once the plugin has been installed and activated, simple proceed to write a new post as per usual. Upon entering the Write Panel for your new post, you’ll see a new panel below the content area. This area will provide you with the titles and links to posts you’ve previously written which are related to the current content you’re writing. Simply highlight the text in your post that you want to create as a link to another post you’ve written and click the [ Add Link ] link next to the title of the post to be linked to, and the link will automatically be generated for you!

Please note: You can play around by adding tags and refreshing the list, or assigning to a category and refreshing the list – Alternatively, include tags and categories and then refresh your list. You can use tags, categories, titles and content to define your list, so play around and keep refreshing until you see results you best like.

For Advanced users, there is an option to add some SQL code on the Settings page to refine your results.

  1. The Remind Me plugin is a great tool to help manage your content and boost your deep linking. After installing and activating it worked just as advertised.

Though there is one caveat, Remind Me automatically adds a link to each of your link categories (for apparent self-promotion of the plugin author’s “Remind Me SEO” site) that cannot be removed from your Links page.

Be advised you get this feature whether you want it or not, I can’t figure out how to revise/remove as a link to “Remind Me SEO” is completely out of context with my other links.

Other than this unintended feature, the plugin is fine.

  2. Hi John,

Thank you so much for downloading and testing the plugin. The link should only be added once selected in the Settings page. I will have this fixed and update the plugin as quickly as possible, as this is a problem!

    Apologies for the inconvenience.

  3. This plugin needs to have a toggle switch for the related posts showing at the bottom of a blog post.

I have a separate related posts plugin that does that. Can you please add this feature?

  4. Hi Kevin,

Just to clarify – What is the purpose of the toggle switch? To hide and show the area?

Thank you for your comment about the Remind Me SEO Deep Linking Plugin!

  5. Chris

Thanks for resolving the problem. Your Remind Me SEO Deep Linking Plugin works great now!

    Viel Erfolg!

    David

  6. Hi David,

Thank you for your time concerning this matter, I’m glad that you spotted it nice and early :)

    Take care

  7. Hi, Chris.

I’ve been looking for an efficient, elegant deep linking function in WP for three years. Yours looks like the solution!

One question, though: How does Remind Me handle later changes to the permalink structure?

  8. Hi Pariah,

Thank you for coming and leaving a comment, I appreciate it. Unfortunately, in this version if you change your permalink structure you’re going to create dead links, which is obviously not ideal and I’m very aware of that and it’s on my to-do list for the next release. The thing here is that the plugin took a great deal of time to put together and I squeezed in all the features that I could manage. The next version will manage a couple new things, such as:

    1. Permalink rebuilding, which is what you’re after.
    2. A popup saying “please highlight some text” or put the destination post title in by default when a person adds a deep link without highlighting text
    3. An Ajax loader .gif to show that the results are being loaded after [ Refresh ] is pressed

My reason for leaving the permalink functionality out was simply because I felt most people wouldn’t be changing their permalink structure once set to friendly URLs, and even so, if they’d created deep links, without this plugin, they would still have the same problem.

    I hope that helps..

  9. Great plugin chris, we are going to be using it for some of our upcoming projects.

Really great esp for admins who are still learning to use the power of WP.

    Keep it up :)

  10. Thanks Ruark, appreciate the positive words – Please do let me know how it works on your upcoming projects!

  11. The Remind Me WordPress plugin is working perfectly on my blog. I’m now in the process of updating my earlier posts with deep links. Highly recommended, no problems and many thanks.

  12. Hi Alan,

That’s so fantastic to hear, glad you’re happy. If you have a moment, please rate it on the WordPress site for me to help spread the word :)

  13. Hello, Chris! I’d like to say your Remind Me plugin is really useful one. It works great. I like it very much. I’ve just rated it on the WordPress site.
    Thanks for your work.
    Don’t give up!

  14. Hi Roman,

Thank you very much for your kind words and your vote; it’s been really hard to get exposure for the plugin, only just over 400 downloads, which was a huge dissapointment, but perhaps if more people like you love it, then it has a chance?!

How did you find out about it?

  15. Chris, I am picking necessary plugins for my future WordPress blog at the moment. I stumbled upon your plugin on the WordPress site by chance.

I downloaded it, installed on my test blog and made sure It works as expected. Then I went here to say thank you.

At first, when I looked at the plugin name, I thought It is something like miniorganizer for admin with reminder feature :)

After reading description I understood plugin cool idea. It is a mistery for me why so helpful one has a little bit more than 400 downloads on the WordPress site. I think It deserves more attention.

    Good luck!

  16. @Roman – Thank you so much for the kind words, really does make the time it took to build the plugin worthwhile! Let’s hope it gets some exposure from bloggers who are enjoying it and perhaps the downloads will start to increase :)

    Thanks mate!

  17. Chris,
Since I have installed your “Remind Me” plugin, it won’t do anything. It is activated in my plugins, and I have a list of Related Post Titles on the end of my post. When I highlight a word in my post, nothing happens. Nothing happen when I click on {add link}. Strange.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Bonnie

  18. Hi Bonnie,

Hmmm, what version of WordPress are you running? The normal process is to simply highlight the words and then click the {add link} like you are doing. My guess is that either you’re using an old version of WordPress and if that’s not the case, you might have a plugin that is conflicting with it..

    Let’s try resolve this :)

  19. Chris,
I’m using WordPress 2.8, with Thesis theme. I notice when I highlight a word in my post, and go to {link this}, the word becomes unhighlighted.

    Might be a snag somewhere.
    Thanks…Bonnie

  20. Bonnie – My guess is that it’s conflicting with another plugin on your installation, I can’t think of anything else..

  21. I appreciate your help on this. I had my SEO plugin inactive, so I activated it.

    Many thanks…Bonnie

  22. Hi Bonnie,

    Is everything working now?

  23. Bonnie – The plugin works on your install, I’ve just tried it out myself. You need to ensure that when you’re writing a post that you’re in VISUAL view, highlight the words in the post and then click the [ Add Link ] button.

Let me know if you have problem, but it’s definitely working :)

  24. Chris,
Yes, “Remind Me” is working perfectly for me now! Thanks so much….Bonnie

  25. It’s my pleasure Bonnie, I’m thrilled to hear that it’s working correctly!

  26. Hi Chris,

How does remind me compare with SEO smart links.

SEO Smart Links can automatically link keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog.

  27. Hi @jaco – Does SEO Smart Links give you the option of choosing which links to link to? Automagic is not the best for SEO in my opinion..

  28. Hi Chris,

It is auto links and that also put me off.

I tried it and what it also does is to add links back to the developer, it is only one or two. I did not like that.

What SEO and adsense plug-ins do you recommend.

  29. Hiya,

Ye, automatic is definitely not my style when it comes to gaining traction through SEO! Links to developers are fair, but not always the best; mine does have a support checkbox, which adds a link to your blogroll, which is obviously appreciated, but not required.

I’d use All In One SEO along with Remind Me for me, and then for Adsense I’d use something like Adsense Manager, but you’ll need to test various Adsense plugins, not everyone will suite you.

  30. Thanks for the feedback.

IMod is already part of my blog roll!!

  31. Thanks jaco! Best of luck mate :)

  32. Thanks for the great plugin! I would like to able to have the link open in a new window – is this possible?

    Thank you
    Ron

  33. @krazy – Which link are you referring to? The one created when you click “Add link”. To do that, just click on the link text, then click the little chain icon from above and select “open in new window”.

  34. Hey Chris,

Thanks for the plugin! I have installed it but when i click the “refresh button” when adding a new post, nothing happens… its like it is always showing the same links…any suggestions?

  35. @Andrew – No problem. What you can try do is add some more tags to the post and then try clicking the “refresh button” – that should render some more results. What version of PHP does your server run, this plugin works best with PHP5. There’s also a chance it’s conflicting with another plugin and the jQuery isn’t executing..

Please let me know if you come right!

  36. @chris – I have PHP 5+ but i think it is something to do with the jquery..

When I mouseover the “refresh” link it has a http://…../# (the hash), so its link is nothing.

What plug in or what do you think could be causing this problem? I have deactivated all plugins and only tested with Remind Me, still no luck.. it seems that the “refresh button” doesnt do anything..

  37. ok i dont know what happened but it works now! :)

  38. That’s brilliant news, so glad to hear that.

If you like it, please consider voting for it: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/remind-me-deep-linking-seo-plugin/

The more stars, the bigger my smile ;)

  39. Thanks Chris for this plugin. And I think it would be better if there’s no related posts when create a new post (because it’s still empty).

  40. Hi Chris,
this is exactly the thing I’ve been looking for… when will it be available for 3.2, or is it best to find another alternative for this purpose?

    Thanks.
    All to Love,
    Sharon

  41. @Sharon – Thank you for your comment – have you tried it on WordPress 3.2 yet?

  42. Hi Chris, No I haven’t tried it with 3.2 because the warning seems so intimidating and no one advises using plug in that is not updated to the version being used. i have nRelate installed, and while i like a lot of what it does, it cannot allow me to do what your plug-in does, be specific and MAKE SURE a given article is connected.

    Dare I? umm..

  43. Hi Sharon, I tried it out on a local installation of WordPress 3.2 and nothing appears to have broken. I also tried changing themes, installing some extra plugins and changing a few other things to test as best as I can and all was successful. I do feel safe saying that you can go with it..

  44. Hi Chris,

Thanks for your feedback, I currently am spread a bit thin with duties so that has the consequence of being a bit slow on the feedback end. However, I noticed your article prompts in my posts, which is great, but none in my pages, and the pages are not being prompted to be linked to the blog articles. umm…

Then, I realize no tags, no categories, no POST content… ummm, looks like page content is not considered is it?? My pages are currently about 20, and they all except for the contact us page and sitemap… have powerful content/article info that readers would be well benefited to link up with.

Is this a possibility or that will never happen? I’m currently in the discipline of applying SEO tags to pages and articles. My present approach is to SEO & link all my pages, & then go to the blog articles unless you have a way to link in pages and it would behoove me to do the posts first… If you should look at my site, you will see what I mean, my pages are as info rich as the blogs.

I appreciate your work, your input
    All to Love,
    Sharon

  45. Hi Chris:

I wonder if there is a way to use “Remind Me” on my static pages so that I may link them to other pages and to posts in my blog.

I am trying to use the WP platform as a CMS rather than a traditional blog. The pages have lots of content that need to be linked to each other and to relevant posts, and vice versa.

Is there a way to use “Remind Me” in that way?

    Dan

  46. Hi Chris:

I, too, share Dan’s concerns. My site is nonprofit and we have lost s of static pages that would be usefully linked to other contents, esp since the pages are denied category or tags.

Just thought I’d chime in that such an ability is useful to someone else. I like the way you keep us informed of new comment input. Thanks.

    All to Love,
    sharon
