Everyday Awesomeness: how to sell your house in style

Have you ever searched for a new home and despaired at the uninspiring photos you found on property websites? It can be enough to put you off house shopping. We all need a bit of help imagining what a space could be, rather than than what we see on first glance. Enter Fantastic Frank.

Fantastic Frank is a Swedish estate agency. This is how they approach selling the homes on their books.

We are changing the world of real estate brokerage by taking a novel approach to the game. Besides recruiting the most competent and ambitious real estate agents we can find in Stockholm – our skilled marketing team beat the competition by having a 50% higher viewing rate* of the properties than other brokers in Stockholm. One key to this is that our photographers and interior stylists treat each and every home like a sleeping beauty…

We hire photographers and stylists from the high-gloss industries, like interior design, fashion and architecture, to make every home look stylish and inviting. The result are photographs that don’t seem out of place in the pages of the best interior design magazines – as a matter of fact our images finds its way there pretty much all the time.

Our philosophy is based on a simple axiom: we’re not interested in creating something that the majority of buyers are going to like. We’re interested in creating something that at least one person is going to positively LOVE because at the end of the day, a house or apartment can only have one owner. Our job therefore, is to find that one person and seduce them!

What a novel idea. Business opportunity, anyone?

Corporate Golf Shirt Printing Special

I’ve spoken about the incredible service I received from Tao Inc last time I ordered some branded golf shirts and this afternoon I dealt with them again and the service was exceptional. This is a company that I am a huge fan on because great service is rare. Whilst I was looking around the factory, Gareth, showed me a special that they have going and I wanted to share it with all of you:

I can highly recommend Tao Inc for any garment printing needs!

Ps. This is not a sponsored or paid post.

Ledula – Service providers you can trust

When I bought my place about a year and a bit ago, I wanted to do some immediate work to the house. We wanted to have new built-in cupboards, additional security gates and the likes. In theory, you’d do a Google search, find some providers, make the calls and Bob’s your uncle. Unfortunately not. We spent countless hours emailing and calling people who didn’t seem very interested in helping or didn’t appear to be “accredited” in any way. So, what do you do?

Ledula is your personal address book of home service providers. Ledula allows you to log in via Facebook and then the system automatically adds your friends’ providers to your personal Ledula address book – a clever recommendation engine. The site covers most of the things you might need, such as plumbers, painters, builders, air conditioning installers, damp proofers, flooring, electrical, braais and so the list goes on.

Here’s a video if you’re a more visual person:

So, I gave it a bash:

I logged in with my Facebook account and immediately clicked on the “Friends’ Providers” button that appears – up popped a list of all the providers people I’m connected to on Facebook have used. You’re able to make suggestions, add providers, view statistics and an assortment of other useful functions. Each provider in the system has a rating out of 5, which assists you in drilling down to who you might want to use.

The system really is awesome, if I’d known about this when I was doing all the work on my house, I’d have saved hours or time and probably a great deal of money.

It takes you literally 30 seconds to sign up and get recommendations, so if you’re interested, click through to www.ledula.com, have a look and let me know what you think!

Facebook brought into real-life in fashion store

I’ve said this before on more than one account, but I’ll say it again because I truly love innovative ideas that incorporate social media in real time.

C&A, a fashion brand in Brazil, has found a really clever way of bringing their social interactions to real life, by displaying the number of Facebook Likes an item has receive online, on the coat hanger in the shop. If my words don’t explain it, take a look:

They have a dedicated Facebook Page that sells items and encourages shoppers to like the items that they’re attracted to, this increases the likes, and in term shows off which items are the hottest in the shop.

I had an idea not too long ago, about installing a simple circuit board system that allowed someone to hold their phone next to it and get prompted with a simple website with LIKE button, to get a person to like the shop or an item, much like a checkin on FourSquare, but because FourSquare isn’t as widely used locally, it made more sense to do it via Facebook, or even Twitter. Because of the fact that you need to sign in, it couldn’t be as simple as a big blue button, which would be the best, but rather a cleverly set up wifi hot spot, blah blah.

Anyway, an incredible innovative idea C&A had and they’ve made a video for us to watch (sorry about the language):

Everyday Awesomeness: Oakley’s fighter pilot-style smart goggles

The product development team at Oakley may well be Iron Man fans. Why? Because they produced the Oakley Airwave Snow Goggle.

This pair of goggles could’ve been a Tony Stark invention. They don’t pack firepower, but they’re essentially what could be called “smart goggles”, complete with GPS, preloaded ski resort maps and a view of incoming calls and messages. They’ll even serenade you with your favourite playlist (via a compatible smartphone) and monitor your skiing performance with jump analytics. Here’s a perspective-giving quote from a post on the Oakley website:

Patrick Mallory of Freshness Magazine wrote, “You may not be cruising at 20,000 feet with rockets attached to your wings, but Oakley’s Airwave Goggles are the first step to giving you the futuristic heads-up display enjoyed by fighter pilot’s and Halo’s Master Chief.”

This is how Oakley describes the Airwave:

Welcome to innovation beyond the limits of possibility. Oakley Airwave™ goggles combine world-class performance, protection and comfort with a display that integrates GPS, Bluetooth® and more with a host of onboard sensors to give you instant access to a world of information.

The revolutionary design allows you to view jump analytics that show distance, height and airtime. With preloaded maps available for many resorts, you can find your location and even track others in your group. Additional sensor information includes altitude, speed and vertical descent data. Bluetooth connectivity allows pairing with a compatible smartphone for immediate viewing of incoming calls and text messages, and if your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone has music, your playlists can be accessed and controlled.

The first time you use Airwave will be an eye-opening experience that will leave you in awe, and innovative prism technology makes it possible. When you are active on the mountain, you will have clear and open vision without obstruction or distraction. When it is time to stop and review your performance or get vital information, you simply move your eye toward the miniature prism lens. The displayed information will appear as though you are looking at a 14-inch display from a distance of five feet, so refocusing your eye is not necessary.

Tweeting park bench

Chris McNicholl has created an interesting approach to bringing our physical and digital lives closer together through a seat he’s designed called the Tweet Seat.

The Tweet Seat looks like a normal park bench, except for a blue slat with the Twitter bird sitting on it. When a person sits down on the seat, it triggers two camera’s, which take photographs of the seat and the surroundings and then automatically tweets the photographs to the user’s tweet stream.

Here are some pics:

Interesting concept, I wonder if we’ll start to see more and more of these integrated systems that merge our physical and digital lives.

What do you think?
