Windows users are now able to jailbreak their iPhone 4 (and 3GS, iPod Touch 3G/4G and iPad) using Greenpois0n.

You can download the application by clicking here, it’s a zip file and it’s only about 62kb, which will take a matter of seconds to download.
Once you’ve downloaded and extracted the software, you can run the .exe file and it will prompt you to connect and turn off your device. This is then followed by 3 instructions, which are easy to follow.
Here’s a video to assist you:
Please note: If you have updated your firmware without ensuring that the modem firmware wasn’t updated, you’ll be running modem firmware (Settings > General > About) 02.010.04, which means that this unlock will not work for you.
An unlock for baseband 02.10.04 – 05.15.01 will be released in the next few weeks, the unlock is called LimeSn0w, keep posted to hear about the release!

Also be aware, that although jailbreaking your phone is legal, it will void the warrantee.
100% -thanks Miggs.
I guess this is aimed more at people who bring phones in from other countries. I would never advice a jailbreak on a phone that was bought here under contract with MTN or Vodacom – that would be risky unless you’re very aware of what’s happening. The device is too expensive to play games with!
Thanks for the update, i have been waiting for this for a while now. I bought my iphone 3Gs in UK at the beginning of the year and have been running the Blackra1n jailbreak since then, unfortunately this has limited my use of the device due to me only being able to run the old software 3.1.2 which limits the apps that you i can download from the apple store.
I cant wait to begin tinkering again this evening with upgrading and re-jailbreaking my device :)
Let us know which software you use and how it goes please @G-Man.. :)
Hey Chris
This looked like great news to me but after I dowloaded, connected my phone and held the buttons down as per instructions the phone just would not come on again and I just keep getting the Try again message from the greenpoison software. What am I doing wrong?
ok, i have done some research and unfortunatly it looks like it will be slightly more complex than i first thought.
I will have to create a custom firmware version 4.0 ISPW file using sn0wbreeze 1.6.1
Once i have this then i can either unlock the device with hacktivision or do it via iTunes which will require me to unlock it through cydia.
It seems that this only works on previously jailbroken devices as cydia plays an impotant role in this.
Also i am still running the original baseband of 5.11.07 and have my SHSHs backed up on saurik’s server(Very Important!), giving me the option of reverting to the 3.1.2 software version if something does go wrong.
Unfortunatly being a software hack, the process will be different for each device and one should take care when attempting this themselves, i dont reccomend this for anyone new to jailbreaking.
So hopefully i will have a jailbroken iPhone 3Gs running software version 4.0 by the end of the weekend, i will post a complete guide on how i accomplished this when i am finished :)
Regards
G-Man
Thanks!
Pleasure, did you try it out @Melin?
Nope, I’m a bit new at this, so I’ll wait to find out more before trying anything else.
