iMod gets a double page feature article in The Big Issue

The latest edition of The Big Issue has been released and it contains an interview with yours truly.

Chris Stevens, the editor and gentleman who interviewed me did a smashing job of this and I really do feel that the article is valuable to the average person on the street.

iMod wins best Technology and Science blog in SA Blog Awards 2009

I’m absolutely thrilled and honored to be able to write this post. After winning best log about technology, computers and web development last year, I have managed to maintain the title, this year deemed, Best Technology and Science log.

I’m not going to go on about this, other than state two thing – My thoughts about the award and a thank you.

1. Last year I was really nervous and anxious to win because it was my first time, however, this year it wasn’t about winning to say that I’ve won, but rather to be able to say that I’ve maintained it – it was more about self fulfillment, to know that I still “had it”, so yes, I’m over the moon, but I’m not going to rock on about it.

2. Thank you. Thank you to all of you, my readers, my friends, my family, my partners, my colleagues and my gorgeous girlfriend – this prize is not only mine, but yours too, without all of you, this passion of mine would not be recognised and I’d not be sitting here with this warmth of love inside me. You’re all absolutely fab!

Right, so there you have it, plain and simple!

Please keep reading and don’t hold back on contacting me with some suggestions, my ears are always open!

Ps. Well done to all of the other winners, and to those who didn’t win, keep pushing, next year could be yours! :)

Christopher Mills represents Cape Town on AskMen.com

Oh happy days I tell you! AskMen.com has just announced the top 29 cities in the world and they published Cape Town as number 27. Each city has a write up and they choose me to represent Cape Town, so you can read my article there – loving it!

Just in time to secure the last few votes in the Blog Awards ye? *wink*

Here’s the article, but please do head on in and take a read!

AskMen

How totally awesome is this?!

Press Release..

The “Top 29 Cities for Men to Live In” results were determined through eight unique rating categories developed by AskMen.com editors including: Dating & Sex, Sports & Entertainment, Culture, Fashion, Health, Power & Money, The Good Life and 2009 Livability. Cities earned points and elevated their rank on the list through an evaluation process that assessed several influential features, such as: the population of single, college-educated women, how late bars/clubs stay open, the presence of reputable menswear-only stores, the rate of male heart disease, the cost of living and the occurrence of annual international arts festivals.

“For the first time ever, AskMen.com ranked the best cities for men around the globe and we’re pleased to acknowledge those cities where men reap rewards on both personal and professional levels,” said James Bassil, editor-in-chief of AskMen.com. “Through meticulous research coupled with real-life experiences, we’ve set out to provide the most comprehensive round-up of the year’s most stimulating and exciting cities for men to live in worldwide.”

As the largest city in the Midwest, Chicago tops this year’s list as the best city for men to live in, offering a vibrant mix of culture and entertainment. The city’s cost of living and down-to-earth charm make it an ideal destination for men seeking a comfortable, cosmopolitan lifestyle.

Striking the perfect balance between fine arts and sports, Chicago offers world-class cultural fixtures like the Art Institute, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago International Film Festival, and professional sports teams like the Chicago Bears and Cubs – complete with storied pasts and diehard fans. In addition, the city boasts one of the world’s most diverse restaurant scenes and is internationally recognized for its signature pizza, Italian beef and hot dogs. This October, Chicago will participate as a finalist to host the 2016 Olympics, which will further enhance its global reputation and support the claim that it is indeed the best city for men to live in this year.

The 2009 edition of the Top 29 follows in the footsteps of AskMen.com’s extensive library of travel-related articles, including the “Top 10 Cities to Visit”, a popular AskMen.com article published last year. AskMen.com anticipates the Top 29 list will become a popular annual mainstay on the site.

Christopher Mills, Rob Stokes, Brendon Scott and The Digital Edge talk SEO

A few weeks ago we threw the gauntlet down by speaking poorly about Search Engine Optimisation. Rob Stokes, head honcho of SEO Company “Quirk” felt that our comments were unfair. To get a better understand of SEO we decided to take a look at it from two different points of view.

Search Engine Optimisation is loosely defined as pushing your website up the search engine so that it comes out as the first result on a specific search term. The Digital Edge felt that this was often used to beat the system and promote dubious or incorrect content. We decided to find out.

We speak to an anonymous SEO expert to hear how he manipulates the Google search system purely for the purpose of selling products and not giving the user the most relevant search results. We also speak to Brendon Scott, a practitioner of “Negative SEO”. Brendon uses the Google search algorithm to actually push websites down the search rankings rather than up as with traditional SEO. Brendon gives us some insight as to why you would want this service and a brief overview of how to take advantage of Google.

Finally we get to hear the positive side of SEO from Rob Stokes, founder of Quirk E-Marketing. Rob is joined by Christopher Mills of “SEO GURU WP” and Imod. They give us an explanation of the commercial model surrounding Search Engine Optimisation and show it’s usage for promoting good content.

Whatever your opinion on SEO is, pick a side and come listen to the debate.

Big thanks to The Digital Edge for having me on your fantastic show!

Part 2 of my SEO interview – more technical

This is part 2 of the SEO GURU interview series.

Christopher Mills interviewed on From-The-Couch

The gents behind From The Couch called me up and asked me if they could interview me, I was completely stoked and honoured. Anyway, it turned out really well, I think, here’s part one:

iMod.co.za featured on MyBroadBand

Today, Alistair Otter, explored South Africa’s top blogs based on engines such as Amatomu and Afrigator. There’s no better feeling than seeing an article with a title like this and then seeing your blog in the mix!

top-south-african-blogs

Anyway, didn’t want to blow my own trumpet, but felt it was something I’d like to mention here :)

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

I got mentioned on ReadWriteWeb for the second time, hmmm

Ok, so like a month or so ago I was mentioned on ReadWriteWeb and almost fell off my chair, you can imagine how I reacted today when I saw that I was mentioned again?!

With the title “Christopher Mills takes a chance and it pays off”, my heart skipped a beat, wait, I think it skipped a couple! Anyway, I read the article and it was all positive, some great publicity for The Forge Web Creations and, well, it’s always great to see your name on a big website, isn’t it?

It made me start thinking about things, once you’re featured on one of these big websites, are you added to their database of people to track, is Big Brother 2.0 following me, should I setup chriswatch.co.za?

Anyway, it’s Friday afternoon, I should probably get moving. Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Muti it!

ReadWriteWeb recognises iMod’s somewhat lascivious nature!

With all the noise about Afrigator being acquired by MIH Group/Naspers, it didn’t surprise me to see that ReadWriteWeb published a story. I have been a big fan of Afrigator for a very long time, so seeing that they were getting more coverage made me smile.

I read the article, and to my surprise, I see that they mentioned iMod! I almost fell off my chair I was so happy, even though they referenced to iMod as a “occasionally prurient tech blog” HAHA! I guess all those posts on sex toys has come back to nip me in the butt somewhat, or so Rox pointed out. Well, they did say “tech blog”, which meant the most to me, especially seeing that I won the SA Blog Awards for technology :)

Prurient – having, inclined to have, or characterized by lascivious or lustful thoughts, desires, etc.

I’m really stoked right now :)

I’ve been accepted as a Tech Leader!
