Today I was given the opportunity to be interviewed on Stellenbosch’s number one radio station – mfm 92.6, by Ruenda.

The interview took place during the lunch show and was essentially a short piece on making a success through blogging. I was asked a few questions such as:

Why did I start blogging?

What were my expectations?

What blogs do I read?

Any advice to people?

It was a very relaxed show and I hope that the listeners learnt something or at least got a few links through the process that they can then later read.

Thanks mfm and Ruenda for having me on the show :)

Rafiq’s started a series on his blog about local Wordpress developers – Once a week, a new developer is featured in a Q & A type approach. It’s a really good idea and I love seeing who the local developers are, and getting to know a little bit more about them.

3 Developers have been featured thus far:

Myself

Matty

Ryan

This is only the start and there are a number of other developers on the list, so I’m looking forward to reading about them. Wordpress has become incredibly popular and has started to be seen as the CMS of choice by many web masters.

If you’re a Wordpress developer and you’re interested in being featured in the series, please contact Anastacia on anastacia@haddon.co.za

Radio Netherlands Worldwide interviewed myself and Oluniyi (Internet Entrepreneur and Technology Enthusiast blogger from Ghana) about Blogging for a living. This took place during June and the release is now available for you to listen to:

Obviously the biggest news at the moment for Radio Netherlands is obviously the football, but it’s great to see them still working on other areas as well as giving Africa some interest!

I mentioned to a few people that I was invited to appear on the Let’s Chat…with Mel TV show and people have been asking me what’s going on.

Quite simply – I am no longer going to appear on the show; let me tell you why:

They wanted me to talk about a topic which is on a very beginner level and I was worried that it would not reflect what I do in the right light to the audience and not only that, but that I might not be able to explain it all in such simple terms, believe you me, the topic is very involved. The Weekend Argus, several weeks ago, did a story on me, more specifically about my blogging and how I make money online. This was fantastic exposure, however, it lead to around 150 emails from people asking me to help them start a blog; now you might ask what’s the problem with that? Well, the problem is that all these people are not willing to pay for the service/help and anyone who knows anything about blogging, and more importantly, setting one up and teaching someone how to use it, takes a huge amount of time. The problem with this is that I just don’t have the time to assist so many people – This would result in hours of work in the evenings when I should be relaxing and not sitting on my computer.

I guess what I’m getting at here is that sometimes we have to put the pride aside, I would have loved to get this ugly mug of mine on tele, but at the end of the day, I don’t think it would have been the right move for me and instead I recommended someone else who I felt could benefit from the exposure more than I could.

Look, I’m a little sad, I’ve been in magazines a few times and have been in the paper a couple times, television has been something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time, so I am hoping that the opportunity will come again, just more in-line with the way I was to be perceived.

Thanks to Let’s Chat…with Mel for offering me the opportunity, I am truly honoured and I hope that your show is a huge success!

With all this being said, I’d love to hear what your thoughts are, did I make a good decision or should I have just done it for the hell of it?

For those of you who are interested in my life, then you’ll probably be interested in reading two articles where I was interviewed.

The first one was on Izimvo, the voice of every South African. The idea behind Izimvo is a website which interviews South Africans giving us all the chance to learn a little more about the people we share our beautiful country with. Izimvo was started by two great chaps – Marc Forrest and Shaun Trennery. I was asked an assortment of questions, from personal to work, you can read it at the link below:

http://www.izimvo.com/christopher-mills/

The second interview I was involved with was on the Incredible Connection blog. The IC blog is one of IC’s ways to communicate with the public. Created by a friend of mine, Jason Bagley, it has really started to evolve nicely into something I hope he’s very proud of. My interview fell under the topic of The Gadget Geek Of The Week and you can read about me here:

Big thanks to Marc, Shaun and Jason for involving me in your initiatives, it’s greatly appreciated!

I’m a huge fan of The Digital Edge, I’ve featured in their podcast about SEO and today I cracked a mention in their podcast about The Bloggerati and I’m pretty stoked! Thanks Dan!

Just to give you an idea of the latest episode, here’s a snippet:

“As the amount of Internet connections in South Africa slowly grows, more and more interest groups are coming online and publishing their content for all to see. Blogging provides a voice for these people and allows them to promote their opinions, services and often agenda. What seems to be a growing trend these days is that individuals that previously had a personal blog are using Twitter as their soapbox and at the same time, blogs are moving into the opinion piece and thought leadership arena.

Does this mean blogging is moving away from fluffy “dear diary” style sites and more towards semi-professional journalistic pieces and if so, is this even a good thing? The reality is that blogging has only rarely rivalled proper researched journalism but this is rapidly changing.”

Take a listen! Don’t forget to check out Dan’s All Things Mobile website :)

I’m not going to go on about this, other than state two thing – My thoughts about the award and a thank you.

1. Last year I was really nervous and anxious to win because it was my first time, however, this year it wasn’t about winning to say that I’ve won, but rather to be able to say that I’ve maintained it – it was more about self fulfillment, to know that I still “had it”, so yes, I’m over the moon, but I’m not going to rock on about it.

2. Thank you. Thank you to all of you, my readers, my friends, my family, my partners, my colleagues and my gorgeous girlfriend – this prize is not only mine, but yours too, without all of you, this passion of mine would not be recognised and I’d not be sitting here with this warmth of love inside me. You’re all absolutely fab!

Right, so there you have it, plain and simple!

Please keep reading and don’t hold back on contacting me with some suggestions, my ears are always open!

Ps. Well done to all of the other winners, and to those who didn’t win, keep pushing, next year could be yours! :)
