Share The Soundtrack To Your Life With Soundtracking

There are many social networks out there, that allow you to share nearly everything in your life. Soundtracking is one of the newer social networks, with iPhone and Android apps, that allows you to share the soundtrack to your life.

You sign into the app with either your Facebook, Twitter or Foursquare account, which are integral to sharing the music that you’re listening to. The user interface is slick and functional, and the layout is pretty similar to Foursquare and Instagram, with buttons along the bottom and a pronounced sharing button in the middle.

By tapping on the sharing button, you can choose to share the song you’re listening to in one of three ways. You could either use the music search function, or use the music ID function, which works similarly to Soundhound and Shazam, which identifies music by ‘listening’ to the music you’re playing, or you could select the song that’s currently playing on your iPod app.

The nice thing about the app is that you can also add a photo to your post, either by taking a new picture, or uploading an existing one from your phone. You can also add a location to your post via Foursquare and add a description, which will make up the body of the text when sharing to Facebook and Twitter.

Once your post is shared, people viewing it get taken to a Soundtracking page, where they will have the option of previewing the song and buying it from iTunes. From here, they also have the option of liking the song, loving it and sharing a comment.

Soundtracking has an average four and a half star rating on the iTunes App Store and the reviews are all positive. Soundtracking adds a musical dimension to sharing, which is a welcome addition to social sharing apps.

OK Go – Needing/Getting – Official Video

The new music video from OK Go, made in partnership with Chevrolet. OK Go set up over 1000 instruments over two miles of desert outside Los Angeles. A Chevy Sonic was outfitted with retractable pneumatic arms designed to play the instruments, and the band recorded this version of Needing/Getting, singing as they played the instrument array with the car.

The video took 4 months of preparation and 4 days of shooting and recording. There are no ringers or stand-ins; Damian took stunt driving lessons. Each piano had the lowest octaves tuned to the same note so that they’d play the right note no matter where they were struck.

Tubalr – Find music and play it with ease

I recently blogged about Airborne, a South African startup that provides artists with a way to gain followers and earn some money whilst letting fans follow artists and receiving new releases and updates before anyone else. This evening I’m looking at another music related service called Tubalr.

The idea is quite simple, YouTube gives us all a place to find artists and to watch their music videos, but have you ever noticed how cluttered YouTube can be? Well Tubalr solves this, it allows you to search for an artist and watch their music video with ease without all the YouTube nonsense around it!

All you do is enter in the band or artists name and Tubalr will return the music video and allow you to watch it without all the clutter. A neat sidebar navigation is provided to help you find other videos related to your search.

Number one song when you were born!

I came across a pretty clever Facebook Page this evening entitled, “Number One Song When You Were Born” which asks you to LIKE the page when you arrive, so naturally you like the page as you’ve more than likely come to the page through the recommendation of someone else – So, I LIKED the page (along with the other almost 2 million users) and the content was revealed.

The Facebook Page then reveals what the number one song on the billboard was when you were born – this meme has gone crazy over the past week as you can imagine and I wouldn’t be surprised if you see lots of people feeding their number one songs into their news feed.
