Free Macbook Air PSD download

Jonathan Olsen, a Swedish designer has released an awesome PSD file for the Macbook Air. The reason I’m blogging this is two fold, firstly, I wanted to start sharing more resources here on iMod, like I did with The Noun Project, but also because I know a number of designers who when sending designs place them inside Macbook’s to show how they would look on, well, a Macbook – if’s a nifty trick.

I love designs that sit inside a Macbook Pro already, but this adds just that little extra piece of magic through its simplicity.

Google Analytics on Android

If you’re a web stats junkie and an Android user then this application’s for you: Analytics Widget. Analytics Widget is a widget for your Android device that shows you your Google Analytics right on the home screen of your device.

The application was launched quite a while ago, August 2010, but as Android devices get more popular I felt I would feature it here. It’s free, it’s 557k in size and scores a 3.5/5, which isn’t too bad.

Designer Resource: The Noun Project

I’m not much of a designer, I never have been and doubt I ever will, but I work with some incredible designers and I know they’ll appreciate this post. The Noun Project collects, organizes and adds to the highly recognizable symbols that we see as we journey through life.

The best part is that all the symbols are free, and will remain free. There’s no trick to grabbing the symbols either, so it’s simple and free.. rare.

The website allows you to drill down your search of the symbols into recent submissions, categories, featured and popular. You can also create yourself a favorites list if you wish.

New Developer Tools for Mozilla Firefox

For those of you who are developers, and still use Firefox, you’ll be happy to know that Mozilla announced yesterday that they’ve rolled out a new developer too. Mozilla put together a video for all of us to have a look at it:

Some of the features are:

1. More built in tools for real-time editing.
2. Page Inspector allows you to look into a page’s structure.
3. Style Inspector allows for quick and easy style editing.
4. Scratchpad uses Eclipse Orion to give you syntax highlighting
5. A full-screen API for full screen web experiences.

Those aren’t shabby additions and some of them are definitely going to give Chrome’s developer tools a run for their money.

The tools come bundled with Firefox, so you’ll need to update to get them.

I think iphoneography is pretty darn cool, I love how people have taken the concept and involved into something that so many people know and appreciated. Another reason Apple products get more and more popular.

Remember Windows? Remember how slow it used to get? Well, fortunately this doesn’t happen too much on a Mac, but it does happen and there are ways to clean your Mac and speed things up and that’s what iBoostUp application is for.

iBoostUp optimizes your Mac through a number of techniques, which include purging files, fixing hard disk sectors, providing performance guidance, removing cookies and showing you system information. The latest version includes a memory booster, which provides you with detailed memory information, as well as free’s up memory.

Better way to watch videos in Chrome

I came across a rather interesting extension for Chrome called Turn Off The Lights. The premise is really straight forward, with just one click on a little lamp icon, the page you’re on will go dark, the point being about focusing on something – for example, when watching a video, the rest of the page will go dark so you can focus on it, like so:

There are a number of other features:

Supports YouTube, HTML5 videos and more.
Supports sites such as Picasa.
There are some easter eggs you can look for.
Shortcut keys.
Flash detection.

Busy week so far!

After Sunday afternoon’s stress, Monday started on an exhausted note, but a meeting and some tight deadlines worked just as well as a few strong coffee’s, and before I knew it I was racing through the day and on my way home. Last night was busy for some reason, I arrived home and just had lists of things to get through. I was sitting outside on my Mac researching some new SEO tactics that I want to test – completely lost track of the time and it was passed 2am! Today was busy too, I’m fairly hands on with a new staff member that is going to take over quite a bit of the work I have been doing up until now so it’s important for me to put the hours in to ensure that he feels comfortable, motivated and most important, passionate.

I had another salsa class this evening, good grief it was hot, wow! We learnt a really easy move, which wasn’t the best, but it was great to be back again, moving to the salsa beats and meeting new people. If you missed it, I’ve gone back to salsa, you can read about that here.

Looks like the weather’s not really going to change much, so prepare yourself for many more hot days:

Oh, and I have to end on this, dare I say that what Matt says below is something I’ve been preaching for years and years – ranking means nothing compared to converting! Sure, ranking highly normally results in more traffic (depending on the search term’s estimate traffic of course), but there’s no point getting thousands of hits to a site if they’re not converting. Take a watch:

Skateboard controlled by xBox

Yesterday afternoon I spent some time figuring out how I could connect my external hard drives to my television and control what I wanted to watch without getting off my butt. Good news is that I found a really great solution – Hard drives connected to a hub connected to Airport Extreme. Macbook wirelessly connecting to the hard drives, movies/series dragged into Fuze, Fuze connected to the xBox and an xBox controller used to play/pause/stop movies/series – really awesome solutions, big thanks to Brendon and Andre for their insight into this mission.

Whilst searching around for some tutorials and the likes I came across this awesome innovative initiative by Chaotic Moon’s LABS. The idea is a skateboard controlled by Xbox Kinect! I won’t bore you with details, rather just take a look at this video:
