Nothing like some good Glenfiddich.

Is Social Commerce growing? [infographic]

Social Commerce isn’t really a buzz word per say, but it’s definitely a new phrase that’s come into affect with the “joining” of E-commerce and Social buzz. Social Commerce involves social interaction and user contribution to assist in the online buying and selling process.

An example of this is a website that has a Facebook Like button next to a product, so when you Like the product, your Facebook friends see it. The same applies for Twitter and all the other social networks. It’s become hugely popular and any company that sells online who isn’t doing this is crazy. Why? Well, just take a look at this infographic.

Here you go:

Nando’s Tangy Tomato Day!

I really do love me some hot food from time to time, but not always! I know a great deal of people who aren’t into hot food and there’s some good news for them today, Nando’s is dropping it like it’s not-hot by introducing a brand spanking new flavour – Tangy Tomato!

Is it a fruit or is it a veggie? Either way, we’re talking sun-ripened tomatoes plus a touch of aromatic basil and a splash of balsamic vinegar – WINNING! All nom, and no burn.

Tangy Tomato is the choice for chicken lovers who prefer a less intense Peri-Peri experience. So, if you can’t stand the heat, get into a Nando’s kitchen.

Why tomatoes? That’s easy; they’re only the most badass fruit on the planet. The Spanish even have a dedicated festival to the heavenly redness. Check out the La Tomatina video.

Tomatoes FTW!

There you have it. Nine out of nine people love the new Tangy Tomato flavour and I’m sure you will too. Give it a try. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.

Annnnnd, Go!

Bargain hunting website for South Africans

Who doesn’t love a good bargain? Silly question really, everyone does! I came across a new website called Guzzle, which aims to provide, us South Africans, with a place to track down specials. Let’s call it a specials engine to be cool shall we? :) The best part about this website is that it covers appliances, cell phones, electronics and even groceries, so it’s not locked into a niche, which so many of these sites are.

Good items being shown on the website come from the major retailers in South Africa, Pick ‘n Pay, Makro, Dion Wired and Game, so it’s all the major brands in one easy and convenient place for you.

5 reasons why I like Guzzle:

  1. The website itself doesn’t sell anything, it’s purely an aggregator. What this means is that the website incurs the costs as a service purely for the public and the only way the website can be a success is if all of us visit it and talk about it, like I am doing here.
  2. When you choose to “buy” a product on the website, you are given details as to which store is selling the product and the best part, it looks for the closest place to your location.
  3. You can choose to set your location on the site and then decide how close the shops should be to you. In other words, I chose “Cape Town” as my location and said I wanted to see all specials within “50km” from where I am – bonus!
  4. Guzzle alerts are quite wicked - Someone signed up for a Guzzle alert on the Canon D600, for example, would have seen the camera’s price drop dramatically in under a month: from R9999 at Makro, to R9495 at Orms, finally appearing at R8499 at Makro. By singing up for alerts, you’re able to monitor the item you’d like and then purchase it at its best price.
  5. You don’t have to sign up to find the specials, which is quite rare these days, this website really is about the consumer!

The project is a self founded project, it’s not a marketing strategy or VC funded venture, the owners want to service the consumer. The owner told me that a great thing about the website is that it exposes prices to the consumer, which prevents us (the consumer) from spending money we shouldn’t be spending. Now I think that’s awesome.

Before I go, let me just mention that next Tuesday we giving away prizes, guests can just look at our http://www.facebook.com/GuzzleSA page for the competition details. Guzzle is giving away a Nintendo Wii Sports, Digital camera’s, TV etc, we just gave away R1000 cash.

Spend your eBucks at HiFi Corporation

Received a notification this morning alerting me to the fact that I can now spend my eBucks at HiFi Corporation! If you’re like me, AV mad and an FNB customer, you’ll be jumping up and down. Racking up eBucks isn’t too hard, especially with the amount of petrol we all go through, so next time you look, you might be able to buy yourself a Bluray player, LED monitor or the likes.

Another cool thing is that it’s not only about spending your eBucks at HiFi Corporation, you can also earn 2.5%+ back when you buy something at HiFi Corporation, so that’s another way to rack up your eBucks!

I’m really stoked to see a great stall join forces with eBucks.

Group buying and coupon penetration [infographic]

Another wonderful infographic is circulating this evening and it’s on one of my favourite topics – group buying. I’ve followed the group buying scene for a long time now and know a lot of the players and inside workings of it, so any insight always gets me interested.

It’s amazing to see just how huge the penetration has been and it’s going to be interesting to see where it goes from here. The big players seem to remain in play and a lot of the smaller players appear to be growing, which means everyone’s growing, which means a bubble might occur. This isn’t a revelation by me, I can’t claim that one, articles have already been written about the group buying bubble, but it certainly starts to ring more clearly with me now.

Anyway, let’s have a look at the infographic:

Top Shop in South Africa – Cape Town & Johannesburg

I’ve never been to the UK, but hundreds of my friends have and there’s one shop they always mention – Topshop. Topshop is one of the most popular brands overseas for women and the great news is that it’s coming to South Africa!

Now, from what I understand, this news should have many women jumping up and down with joy – correct me if I’m wrong though please!

On March 6th 2011, Topshop announced that it would be opening a flagship store in Johannesburg this month, July, but this seems to have changed, as Topshop announced that the store would in fact only open in Johannesburg in November and would also include a Lady Gaga collaboration range. Along with this news was that a Topshop would also open in Cape Town, but there aren’t more details about this yet.

I did some Googling after hearing this news from a mate of mine and found the Topshop Facebook page, which appears to share this information. I’m not sure if it’s an official official page, but it certainly looks like it.

If you know more, please do pop me a comment and share.
