One of the wonderful things about going to Winex is finding a gem.
Mark Norrish of Ultra Liquors has always had an eye for the little tank in a cellar. Perhaps something the winemaker has not yet blended into a larger blend.
Secret Cellar is the result. It is available in Shiraz as well.
Secret Cellar Cabernet Franc Petit Verdot is a real little gem. I suppose you could call this a Bordeaux style blend as the two grapes used are classical Bordeaux varieties.
Cabernet Franc is the mother of Cabernet Sauvignon and known as ‘the other Cabernet’. Lighter in tannin and not as intensely flavoured as Cabernet Sauvignon, more grassy and herbaceous and delicate of body, it does produce luscious and fruity wines.
Petit Verdot adds spice and the wonderful aroma of violets, and produces a rich, fruity wine which can age well.
Together in this wine they sing a wonderful duet.
Secret Cellar Wines are available from Ultra Liquors and this one sells for just under 30 bucks. Great value and if you didn’t see the label you would think you were drinking a R70 wine.
