Creation Chardonnay – Wine Review

Carolyn Martin and her Winemaker husband JC have created a huge amount of publicity for their Creation wines which come from Hemel en Aarde Ridge, a relatively new appellation to the west of Hermanus. Situated up in the Hemel en Aarde Valley, clinging to a hillside, the cellar is all about gravity feeding and as little disturbance to their amazing wines as possible.

Do have a look on their website www.creationwines.com as they have some exciting events and meals so you are able to make it a destination visit.

The Chardonnay from the 2009 vintage is a rich straw colour with flashes of green around the edges. Smells are ripe sliced pear and white fleshed
peaches with whiffs of vanilla from the beautiful oaking the wine has been
given.

Creation Chardonnay

The feel in the mouth is full and superbly balanced with the acidity, fruit
and oak all as one.

Long long sparky aftertaste.

This is a treat with fresh fish – simply prepared in a pan with lemon and
butter.

Michael Olivier selects and recommends some exciting wine finds, good restaurants and comfortable guest houses to visit in South Africa. Be sure to have a look at Michael's website.

I know this is maybe difficult to do, but would it be possible to include some sort of price range for the wines…

  2. Please forgive – I dont always think price when I am writing and will try and remember to do so in future. Creation’s Cellar Door price is R120 for the 750ml bottle. The Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are well priced at R79.50.

Hi Michael, thank you so much for coming in and letting us know the price! In most cases you do share the price, so it’s just the odd time that it doesn’t happen. I think it’s just useful, because then people know what they can expect :)

Got something to say? Go for it!
