Apple and Mini Cooper Brand alignment campaign

Q: What do you get when you merge several amazing brands together?
A: An unforgettable day!

Today saw Core Group (Value Added Distributor of Apple products in South Africa), Mini and Nikon stand together to create a campaign, which was truly amazing. Let me tell you a little bit about it, without going on for too long:

I was invited to attend an event called the Ama-Zing Race and was told that I could invite a few colleagues along for the ride. We arrived at the Waterfront Apple iStore this morning and we given a presentation all about Core Group’s campaign, A to Z of ZA (a showcase of the best to be seen and done things in South Africa), and were then presented with Clue No 1, which was to randomly select the key to a Mini Cooper and track down our vehicle for the day. Imagine this – 15 or so people walking up and down a line of Mini Cooper’s trying to figure out which one was ours – trust me, what a laugh! Eventually we found ours, a Mini Cooper S drop top, can you say “Hell ye!”. I jumped into the vehicle and poor Andre and Brendon had no choice but to be passengers :P

Clue two was to “fly” around Cape Town in our Coopers, armed with iPods, taking pictures, with our Nikon camera, of things we thought were amazing and then to return to the iStore where we would compile a photobook using an Macbook and then the judges would choose the best photobook and the winners would win a cool prize.

We ventured to Signal Hill, which was followed by Llandudno, then Adderly Street and finally Long Street. Andre and Brendon are serious photographers, so I knew that they’d work their brilliance to come up with some epic shots, which they did.

Long story short, we compiled our photobook whilst enjoying some lovely snacks at the iStore and when it boiled down to announcing the winners – WE WON! Our photobook, entitled iMini – Ama-Zing! will be snail-mailed to us and once I have it, I will publish a copy for all of you to see, but to give you an idea, this is the drift:

What an absolutely BRILLIANT DAY, probably one of the best campaigns I’ve ever been involved with. I certainly gained a huge amount of respect for Apple, Mini and Nikon today and I’m not being paid to write this, so take my word for it!
