Die Antwoord – Enter The Ninja
I wouldn’t recommend this to sensitive readers.
Don’t quite know what to make of this! The intro was freaking deep, the beat’s decent and the freestyling isn’t bad at all, not too keen on the accents; the ladies voice is an interesting break.
Must admit, quite interesting to see this after the hype around Make The Circle Bigger!
Guess I don’t mind the song, it’s quite catchy, but the video is perhaps not the best direction to take, rather disturbing (I know that creates hype, but still).
Here’s their website – www.dieantwoord.com (once again, not for sensitive readers)
[Thanks Rou]
aiaiai I am your butterfly
I need your proteckshin

aiaiai? I am your butterfly
I need your proteckshin
need your proteckshin
Update, I’m told that it’s the guys (guy and girl) from Max Normal minus three members..

[Thanks Lulie]

seriously… south africans should just stay away from music… i know i will get flack for this but SA music at large is generally abrasive unrefined crap.
maybe i’m just a slut for what comes out of europe.

I find the song catchy, I’m just worried that it portrays something that isn’t quite good for South Africa..

You know, the first time I watched it, I thought it was hilarious… but the second time, I enjoyed it… And the other times, I started enjoying it’s seriousness… *if* they are, that is…

Ye mate, very interesting song! I updated the post, it’s apparently the guy and the girl from Max Normal minus 3 members – that explains the awesome beat :)

Same sound. Saw them live a few years ago and thought they were ridiculous… These guys are different, like when Eminem first came about…

Ye, I had the Max Normal album, used to love the tunes! You remember Eminem’s first album, Infinite?

Hey Chris
I dunno, the video is pretty appealing to me. When you say it’s NSFW and not safe for sensitive viewers are you refering to Leon Botha (DJ Hi-Tek), the progeria sufferer’s looks? Yeah his looks maybe a little shocking at first, but once you get to know the artist himself, your whole view will change. Just watch this video http://bit.ly/9vR9zq and check out his Flickr account to see how talented he is http://flickr.com/photos/solarize-liquidswords
Anyways, Die Andwoord is Waddy Jones and Yolandi Visser’s (Max Normal TV) new project with DJ HiTek dropping the beats :). To me it seems they’re exploring a new sub-genre, Zef Rap. And it seems to be working for them. They’ve been featured on Boing Boing, GT4 AOTS, Vice Magazine and a few other large international sites.

Nah, just the amount of swearing and some visuals might not be appreciated in the office, that’s all really; must admit, the more I watch and listen, the more I enjoy the song, from an “art” point of view, it’s tight! Nah, he didn’t freak me at all, I know about him, respect to him.
Ye mate, I think they’ll get amazing coverage! :)
Feb 8th, 2010 at 12:12 am
Ah ok, get you :). Was wondering what would be nsfw besides the audio.
I dig it. They’ll certainly have their Vernon Koekemoer like 15 minutes but I dont see this lasting long term though.

Haha, ye, agreed, spike in traffic and then a gradual decrease, but let’s enjoy it whilst it’s up!

Yes, I think they are The Answer!
Feb 8th, 2010 at 7:41 am
@Wezz Leon Botha is not DJ Hi-Tek.

Have a look at this video:

Its OK, most people won’t get Die Antwoord. They are one their way overseas. We’ll talk again in October. Almost every online article on Die Antwoord lack insight and facts. Even The Sunday Times got it wrong on the front page yesterday.
Its OK, let people keep on guessing and make up their own stories.
That’s all, folks.

Well, one thing I know is that it’s creating big hype, loving it! :)
Feb 8th, 2010 at 12:13 pm
I used to love Waddy TUdor Jones (max Normal) but this is just to much, they have just re-invented themselves as lower class afrikaans trash, it seems to be working for them but shit I dont like it, Max used to be the heat, but ZEF music aint for me!

@CraigS: Trash is Cash!
Feb 9th, 2010 at 12:28 am
Lol!
Feb 9th, 2010 at 10:19 am
@Richard: You are 100% correct and im sure they are more then happy about it too. I just remember the good old days of Max Normal. One of the freshest acts to come out Cape Town… Change is always happenes though and there formula worked!
All im saying is I dont like it :(

Big lolz at ‘zef’ – but it’s too true!
Waddy kicked as with Max Normal, and Super Evil was also pretty epic, kinda on the fence with this one though.
Still, the man is a genius, twisted and warped he may be.

Such a brilliant tune; can’t believe I heard it on 5FM yesterday!

@halicon hehe :)

It’s a masterpiece by some really clever people. South Africans or any other mainstream audience wouldn’t take to the weirdness of this video I think, but there is def a huge audience in CT/Jhb and abroad. I see Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit) calls them his ‘new favorite band’ and Katy Perry loves them on twitter.
Big Ups!
