By now you should know about Michael’s wine of the week review on iMod, if not, click here and take a look at how things work.
This week it’s a 2008 Lindhorst Sauvignon Blance:

The price: Excellent value at R54 a bottle at the cellar door
First Impression: Cool climate grapefruit and freshly cut grass
The Story: Mark Lindhorst is tired of hearing the story of how he worked for me as a barman in 1976 when he was an accountancy student at Stellenbosch University, but the thrill for me is the amazing success he has made of his life as an accountant and now in the wine business.
The Taste: Classic Sauvignon Blanc, made from Durbanville grapes, lovely tropical fruit, guava and grapefruit gently brushed with a little oak – 3% of the wine is oaked which adds to the flavour and does not detract from the freshness.
Michael Says: Mark is as passionate about the Paarl provenance of his grapes for his red wines as he is about using Durbanville grapes for his Sauvignon Blanc.
Did You Know? The cooling effects of the chill Atlantic oceans causes slower ripening of grapes – extending the hang time of the bunches and increasingtheir flavour.
The small print: 13.06% alcohol by volume.
