Google Updates Pagerank
About two weeks ago, it was announced that Google Pagerank was fading away, but Google has just updated Pagerank, so perhaps this isn’t quite the case. In both situations the announcements were made by Google, so it wasn’t a case of someone just announcing that Pagerank was fading out.
I’ve argued many times that Pagerank really means very little when it comes to websites, in fact, anyone who goes strictly on Pagerank is ignorant and will most probably end up shooting themselves in the foot. Don’t get me wrong, a website with a PR of 0 or 1, or even 2 is probably a website which hasn’t been established very long, or has a ton of duplicate content or too many outlinks, and probably isn’t worth doing a link exchange with, but the minute you move to PR of 3+ then, in my opinion, there’s little difference in terms of achieving links and it doesn’t have to do with how much traffic a website is getting.
It’s going to be interesting to watch this space and see what Google decides to do about it. I think that PR is a branded term with Google and they wouldn’t want to completely drop it, but perhaps they’ll change their algorithms and give users a better understanding as to what each level of Pagerank requires – if that happens, it’ll gain more value!
I’ve already noticed that the PR of some of the top SA bloggers have already dropped!

I have a PR of 3. I don’t know if that is responsible for many of my articles appearing high in search engine results, but many of my blog posts hit the first page of google searches.
