Morgenhof Fantail Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2006

Oh fantastic, I’ve just received another wine review from Michael over at MichaelOlivier.co.za..

The price: Under R50 bucks a pop.

First Impression: Big chewy elegant rustic wine.

The Story: A Morgenhof label, but by no means a “second” label. A wine ableto stand on its own.

The Taste: Deep ruby red in colour, fine elegant flavours, brushed with oak, the Cabernet Franc lends its classical forest floor after gentle rain
smells, mushroomy and that delicious smell of just wet leaves. Lovely
berries, velvet glove tannins and a good long spicy finish.

Michael Says: With the current chilly thunderations, you want a chunky thick vegetable and pasta soup to go with it.

Did You Know? Morgenhof is owned by Ann Cointreau, an elegant French lady from the eponymous liqueur family. They also make Gosset Champagne.

The small print: Simonsberg Stellenbosch grapes. 53% Cabernet Sauvignon 47% Cabernet Franc and a splash of Malbec. 14.11% alcohol, 2.9 gm/l residual sugar.

Thanks again Michael for keeping us up to date with what wines we should be drinking!
