It’s time for another wine review by Michael Olivier and this week it’s the Landskroon Paul Hugo Red 2008.

Bags of red fruit from all three wines in the blend and forest floor
mushrooms from the Cab Franc are the first impression.
A blend of Cabernet Franc 50% and 25% each of Merlot and Shiraz. Juice and skins remained in contact for four days to give maximum flavour and colour. All fruit and no oak maturation.
Delicious tastes of fresh red and black berries, just pure fruit, uncomplicated quaffer [in the nicest possible way!].
The de Villiers family of Landskroon have been farming there for 5
generations. Well known Port makers, they were former owners of Boschendal. Paul de Villiers the current incumbent wine maker won the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year Award 2000 for his Port.
