Imagine having to inhale my gas every day? It won’t kill you! In fact there is no known side effect from inhaling human gas known to man!!! Except, the gag reflex, because you’re actually tasting what you smell… Yummy!

I haven’t made any further comments for almost a year now, but have been reading the back and forth comments posted. What I have assessed is that the “holier than thou” ex smokers have the most to say about the pollution and health effects smokers have on them, the non smokers that have never smoked chirp along with them and the smokers (which I am) defend. A short note, one of my EX-company drivers, been with my company for some 12 years, wrote off one of my Corsa utility bakkies, wiped out a new VW 20 odd seater brand new taxi, and strange it wasn’t the taxi at fault this time, but my man that was intoxicated at the time of the accident. Although the police report stated he was intoxicated, tests could not be done as the prompt response from the men in blue took three hours to arrive. What would the results have been if there were people in the taxi, or others in my bakkie?

Get real all non or converted smokers; sewage pollution into rivers and drinking water kills, pollution from industry and car emissions are depleting the ozone layer, deforestation is creating a planetary disasters, there is proof that these are directly linked to death, crime kills, regular eating fast foods and chocolates, crisps and fries lead to obesity which is proven ends up in heart failure, not to forget the abuse of booze and drug addiction! Take a trip along the Pretoria/Krugersdorp highway and pass Dieplsoot, shopping packets, papers, refuse and rubble litter the fences, drive back from Middleburg to Johannesburg and pass Davyton in Winter at 18h00 or 05h00 early morning, the smog is that dense that you are not able to see a vehicle 20m ahead, but we are more concerned about a few smokers that dispose of a smoke butt out of car windows, how many shack fires are started by smokers or is it due to illegal electrical connections that create short circuits resulting in devastation and deaths.

The claims that smoking is casogenic, secondary smoke is claimed to be worse. We all know of Christopher Reeves, strangely his wife died of lung cancer and never smoked, nor did superman. Skin cancer is proved a direct result of sun radiation; do we also want to snuff the sun?

Lets all stand together and save the planet from smokers, but at the same time cut the booze, stop crapping as this pollutes our scarce water resources, stop braaing as the emissions are adding to pollution, stop using electricity as power stations emit pollution, stop driving to reduce our carbon footprints, stop buying wooden furniture as we are destroying the ecological balances, in turn prevent pollution from them grilling the great burgers on open flames, in fact stop everything???

Smoking has made the big hit of the century, how about smokers and non smokers stand together and rather quit the “holier than thou” attitude, but look into the real issues affecting all our lives. If our wingers were that perfect, they would have earned their wings and haloes, something is missing as I haven’t seen one flying around.

My closing comment is that they look at themselves and stand tall that they are perfect and are not in any way adding to the planetary problems or doing something constructive to eliminate the real issues, if not, step of the podium of self acclaimed righteousness and do something to “earn your wings”.

Ha ha spot on Chris. A touch dramatic there Matthew! Just because people drink at times, and have cars, doesn’t mean they drink and drive. So assuming that all smokers throw cigarette butts out of windows is stupid. Plus, standing outside a mall smoking should be the last of your air pollution concerns.

Matthew I’m assuming you don’t drive a car and have no carbon footprint? If this is true, then you have a decent argument.

To Missy E who says: “All I am going to say is that the new smoking laws can kiss my ass!!!!!!!!” This is the typical attitude of so many smokers and also why many non smokers cant stand them. Not only do you not care about your physical health, but you do not care about polluting our air, burning down our mountain or standing outside a shopping mall exit and polluting everyones air! If only you would consider non smokers who have to walk through your stench. Or perhaps, begin to understand that flicking a cigarette butt out of a car window can cause death and destruction on a massive scale! Perhaps, when the average smoker stops being so selfish, they will begin to feel less persecuted!

I don’t think us NON-SMOKERS are freaked out about smokers who are considerate!
The point here is some smokers are also hackers that don’t give a stuff about anybody else.
They way these conversations go sometimes its as if the smokers are against the non-smokers, which is not the case!
BUT, smoking in public where others breath “banned” is a good thing! I don’t hate smokers – I just love my health!
Many of you guys will say – “I’m a considerate smoker” and then, “give us a break” with the next breath?
The emphasis is on inconsiderate smokers!!!
And I don’t think I want to give inconsiderate smokers a break!!!

ok fair is fair im a smoker but then i dont drink what about all the lives that have been ruined by drunk drivers that have accidents and kill other people what about all the abusive relationships out there most of those are fueled by alcohol or drugs whats putting the prices up or changing the rules going to do i really believe nothing take a good look around there are much bigger problems in this country

Mona, you sound like someone who thinks like me. As a smoker, I have big respect to those who don’t smoke, I’m the kind of guy who asks if it’s ok to have a ciggie, for example. But when it comes to non-smokers giving us smokers a little respect, it’s only fair!

Laura, I absolutely agree with Chris M. Smoking in a flat is awful! But for the rest of you, stop discriminating against us smokers! Point is, if smoking is so bad and they want to ban it everywhere, why do they still sell it to the public?? Now all of the sudden everyone is for the law (except for smokers). Not all smokers are so bad and I believe that most men and women do have respect for the public who doesn’t smoke at all!! Give us a break; it’s a choice we made, which makes us different and unique from each other, so live with it!!
