iMod readers don’t want me on video

About 2 years ago, I started thinking about doing video blogging as a number of the most well known bloggers started. I never got round to doing it as I felt there was no point unless I could do it very well.

The other day I started thinking about it again and decided that the best way would be to ask all of you what you felt and the results show as follows:

Should I do video posts:

Yes – 34%
No – 66%

At first I was a little surprised, but then after asking around, it started to make sense. The main reason people don’t want me to start video blogging is that they don’t want to hang around and wait for a video to load nor do they want to use up all their bandwidth – these are extremely valid points and as such, I’ve decided to put video blogging on hold, or the idea thereof.

Thank you to everyone who voted, you vote counts!

  1. Yep, that’s why I voted no. It would be great to have a video blog, but Internet in SA is just too slow and expensive to make it worth the effort.

  2. I do agree Johann, however, I was actually thinking more along the lines of 1 video every two weeks, just as a regular blog post, not completely changing iMod, etc.

But I think I’m going to pause the idea for a while, saves me a huge amount of time and keeps all you wonderful people happy :)

Thanks for the support mate, I really do appreciate it!

  3. Oh ok, I hear what you’re saying. But still, I would much rather read a blog post than wait for a video to finish loading. :)

Hopefully this will change soon enough with the massive investment in telecoms in SA.

  4. Yea the reader would then have to wait for the video to load which is expensive and time consuming. The reader also has to then watch a lot more of the video to decide if they want to continue to watch it or stop. I don’t watch most videos sent to me unless I know that I am going to enjoy it. I think you might face the same type of response.

  5. I reckon just go ahead and do it. Having a video post every other week will definitely bring in a new audience (Europe & US) keen to listen the the Chris M wisdom. My 2c.

  6. I voted ‘No’ because I’m not used to watching videos online. YouTube, Zoopy etc. are blocked at work, so the videos you post are just not visible between 8am and 5pm (to some of us anyway!) Oh, and I also don’t normally use speakers / headphones. It’s much more convenient to read text.

  7. @Johann @CptAwesome @Bronwen – Valid points, there’s nothing more powerful to me than your opinions, so thank you for taking the time to come and comment, I appreciate it.

@Wezz – I’m going to put it on the backburner for a little until I can get myself a decent camera to use, I’ve no idea which direction to go with that. What I might do is record a video, place it in the sidebar and if people want to watch, they may, if not, they’re welcome to ignore it – I would like to share some tips and tricks via video, I think it would be an exciting avenue!

Have your say..
