New South African make money online network – Adgator
The Cape Town Web Designers just pointed out to me that Afrigator has just announced the launch of AdGator, an advertising network which will reward hard working bloggers for all their efforts by displaying adverts on their websites.

As a South African online marketer, the biggest problem for me is that most affiliate and advertising networks require PayPal accounts, which as you know is a problem.
In true AfriGator style, the dashboard is crystal clear and easy to use:
The concept of Adgator is simple. Sign up as a blogger, insert a piece of code into your blog theme and we’ll go out and find advertisers who are willing to spend money. Each time a blogger sees one of our ads on their website they know that they’ve made money. Initially we’ll be sticking to a CPM model because that’s what advertisers understand and we will share 50% of the revenue with bloggers.
This model means that a blog serving as little as 2,500 page views a month can make R300 for doing nothing and if you’re lucky enough to be a high-traffic blog your earnings could be as high as six figures. Our aim with Adgator is to be as transparent as possible and all blog owners will have their own access to our system so they can track their earnings in real time. In our reporting we break down cost, revenue share and total income so the blogger knows exactly who’s getting what. via
Interesting, “2500 page views resulting in close to R300″ – that’s not bad, iMod gets well over 100,000 page views a month, so that would total R12,000.00 if my math is correct – this is going to be interesting :) Although, I’ve had over 8 years experience with online marketing and website monetization and doubt that my blog will earn revenue like that, but let me stay optimistic!!!
Perhaps Adgator will bring more revenue than Adsense for me? Hmmm
I will be creating my account this evening and testing everything out – I look forward to it!

Hey Chris – thanks for the support. My hope is that your cheque from Adgator is MUCH bigger than one from Google Inc. ;)

Wow. They copy pasted http://www.text-link-ads.com – some of the images even have the same name :(
Fail.

Copy paste for the win.

If you look at the source of both sites, they are almost identical, even the naming of divs and classes etc.
I mean, if you are going to copy something, at least make an effort to not make it so blatant :/

Grief, I didn’t get a chance to get that deep into it as I’m a huge fan of Afrigator, perhaps I was just turning a blind eye ;)

Geez you guys are sharp and on the ball – there’s no getting away with anything!!! :)
Text Link Ads was my inspiration due to the simplicity of the layout and design and I’d be lying if I said we didn’t copy the code.
To be honest we didn’t really expect the site to be going live so quickly and we needed something up and running ASAP. With Mark Forrester on leave (planning his wedding) I was left at the web design helm and this is what you get when you let a business/operations guy to do the design!

Honestly, I don’t think it’s a big deal at all, we all get inspired from places. Text-Link-Ads is a great website, one worth using as a foundation.
Will Mark be working on the design when he returns?
Nov 11th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Mark’s actually in Cape Town from London till the end of November. He’s been in Hermanus for the last two weeks and he’ll be spending a few days in the Afrigator office from Thursday onwards.
He will most definitely make changes to the design when he’s in the office ;)

Oh awesome, lucky him! I can’t wait to get started and see what the potential is :)

Well, Text Link Ads is a great layout to get the inspiration from but initially this is beside the point if you ask me.
Fact is SA is short of a well run professional services that benefit advertisers as well as make site owners some real decent cash and I rate Adgator may just help to change that.
Big up, good luck to Justin (the other, other one) plus his team and I look forward to being a part of this.
Rock on…!!
Nov 11th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Well said Justin, I’m itching to test it all out tomorrow!
Nov 11th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Thanks for your comment Justin (the other one:) ) and I value your support in this. I really believe strongly in Adgator and I see so much potential for it both for bloggers and advertisers. I guess our challenge now is the advertisers but we’re winning this battle slowly!

I’m all for using other websites that have clean and functional designs for inspiration, don’t get me wrong and I agree that adgator is a much need service for the local advertising scene.
Personally, the most frustrating part about foreign advertising networks is getting your money out of them. Text link ads use a new system called payoneer which makes it 100 times easier. They give you a debit card and you draw the money from an atm as you would from your regular bank account.
I hope that adgator does well and that it can deliver on the expectations people now have of it.

Thank you guys, that’s very interesting. I have another method which could make you thousands if not millions. At the moment i’m just collecting email addresses to gather a database. If any of you are interested, you can simply send me an email with the title SHOW ME and I’ll definitely get back to you
Dec 29th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
@Edmund, are you aware that collecting email addresses and sending out messages isn’t legal, unless the people have given you concent to send them information?
@Darryl, that’s really interesting to hear about Text Link Ads and their card, I must check that out :)

Hi Chris. I’m collecting it in this manner. I send out my ad to classifieds and asking people to contact me on my email address for more info

Ok sure, just wanted to clear that up before everyone on here starts shouting spammer :)
