MIH SWAT releases Feedalizr version 2.1.2 with Facebook Status Update
MIH (SWAT) are a local team of key players, who are working on some extremely interesting web applications. Last time I mentioned them, was for the feedalizr version 2.1 beta release, and now it’s time to mentioned them again, as they’ve released version 2.1.2.
Between 17/09/2008 and 19/09/2008, they released the following features:
- Twitter replies from Friendfeed entries
- Scroll speed increased
- Scrolling position remembered when toggling between tabs
- Page up and page down scrolling enabled
- Likes and comments on your friends’ updates included in your stream
In version 2.1.2, they have added 3 new items:
- Update Facebook status
- View Facebook friends’ status updates
- Fixed the ‘freezing’ bug, which some of you might have been experiencing.
So I’ve tested it out again and these are my thoughts, please note that I didn’t play for too many hours:
1. Adding your Facebook account is fairly straight forward. A suggestion would be to change the way the buttons look in “step 1″ and “step 2″, as this isn’t very clear. The process of updating my status for the first time took a great deal of time, even on my 4MB line with no other applications running. I like how it brings back your current status when you opt to update it again.
2. Seeing the minutes under a users name, when you get a twitter, for example, it pretty tricky, the light gray on the blue doesn’t work too well.
3. I’m a little confused. A friend updated their Facebook status and the background of the entry on Feedalizr is white, then I received a direct message on twitter and the background is white too, this is a bit confusing, however, I’m sure it does take some time getting used to.
4. A suggestion, from what I’ve seen, would be to make the backgrounds of the entries synonymous with the application creating the entry. For example, tweets in lightblue, facebook items in darker blue, and so so, this might make following easier?
5. The filter selector is useful. I’m not a huge fan of these applications, which are meant to replace a number of other applications, sometimes I want to just do twitter and other times twitter and facebook, for example.
6. I’m still deciding on whether I like the toasts of not, it’s incredibly useful to have them popping up, but with 700 friends on Facebook, being streamed each and every status change or post, gets rather crazy, perhaps a way to choose which networks to stream? Only twitter and flickr, but not videovideo and Facebook..
Well, those are my suggestions for now, it’s a great application if you want to reduce the number of applications you use, but if you’re like me, having a couple seperate items makes life easier :)
On the topic of web applications, Microsoft plans Office Web Applications, a suite of office applications, which will function online, much like Google Docs and Spreadsheets. I’ve been using Google Docs for a long time and absolutely love the functionality, but when it comes to working offline, Office 2007 takes the cake, so it’ll be interesting to see what Microsoft have for all of us!
