2 things about increasing your RSS subscriber count

I was chatting to a friend earlier about increasing the number of RSS subscribers we have to our blogs. I spent some time thinking and in and amongst my thoughts I came up with an idea as well as found a plugin, which is useful.

Posting comments on other peoples blogs earns bloggers very little credit because most WordPress installs use ref=nofollow, which earns you no credit in terms of SEO. So, what I thought was, why no plop in your RSS URL instead of your blog URL? I tried this out on a few blogs and noticed my feed count grow in just over an hour!

The second thing I came across, which I have seen before, but felt I should raise it again, is the What Would Seth Godin Do WordPress plugin. The plugin displays a custom welcome message to new visitors and another to return visitors. I took a look at the plugin, but it didn’t quite suite me, so I’ve read through the code and adapted it according to what I required. Should you want a copy of the real plugin, click here.

Does anyone have some good tips for increasing RSS subscribers? If you do, click here , and leave your comments!

Thanks for this post Chris. I’m low on subscribers, like 1 or 2 at the moment, so I’m hoping that taking your tip with my feed address on this comment will help bump up my subscriber count :)

Fantastic, just keep pushing forwards, display your feed buttons in clever places and encourage your readers to subscribe..
