You perform at your best when you’re tested

I was over at Sue’s blog taking a read when I came across this piece of writing she did, which was adapted from “The Obvious” by James Dale. I felt it had a huge amount of value to it and wanted to share it – It goes nicely with a change in strategy.

Push yourself

You can coast and you can do fine.
But over time this will make you stale and tired. You’ll lose your edge.

You perform at your best when you’re tested.
So, if you’re good at what you do, if you almost do it blind-folded, stop.

Walk away. Raise the stakes.
Do something you want to do, even if you’re not sure you can do it.

Take on a challenge.

Even if you fail, you failed at something hard, not easy.
And you’ll learn something you didn’t already know.

Just remember not to push yourself too much!

Brilliant! Might just print that out and stick it up in my office.

It’s a really cool piece of writing isn’t it! Definitely something to read over when you’re not quite sure where you’re at in life..

And the very cool thing is that this can be applied to ANYTHING, not just work …

It’s similar to the principle of building muscle – you have to make them work outside of their comfort zone in order to grow.

You can attach this mindset to anything in life, from choosing a new genre of music to listen to, to driving a different route to work, to finding a new hobby, expanding your social network … anything =)

    Complacency is a killer!

Thanks Chris – or Sue rather!

I needed this bit of perspective and motivation for the project I am sending off tomorrow… which is make or break kinda thing and somewhat terrifying, but will take my copywriting skills to a whole new level when (not if!) I get it sorted.

This is how we progress, by raising the stakes and taking the plunge.

So, I think I am ready to take this next leap and up my game! :-)

@Rox – As you said, let’s grab some bubbly this week at Fire and Ice!

@Sue – Love it, motivational poetry/writing always hits home wonderfully :)

Got something to say? Go for it!
