coda.co.za redesigns into version 6

dress up. leave a false name. be legendary.

I’ve often mentioned that Damien is the person who got me into blogging and through the years of redesigns, I can honestly say that this is the most incredible release yet. It’s powered by Wordpress (finally bud hehe) and for a custom theme, it is the hottest theme I’ve seen on the net!

coda Home Page

As you can see from the home page, Damien has taken a new approach, something I have not seen before. Depending on what is new on his website, it is showcased in rows with the title of the update, the date and the time, but most importantly the category, above you’ll notice the categories for the updates are BLOG. I think this is totally awesome and wish I’d thought of it myself. Not only does the functionality work well, but the ability for Damien to change the image on the left makes me realise we’ll see many different images in this spot. He has kept his logo, which I think works really well and as Damien is a css guru, you’ll notice many hover effects on the website. His top right navigation is flash handled with a wicked green fade in and out effect.

coda Blog Page

As far as the sub pages go, this is an example of his blog page. He’s swopped the header logo and navigation around which works nicely in my opinion. The black horizontal bar will results in great visibility for those who want to subscribe to his RSS feed or add him as a technorati favourite. Damien always looks into the finer details, so you’ll notice a slight shadow around this black bar – nice one!

Two other little features I think are wicked:

  • For each blog post, when you hover over the little clock, it lights up and announces the number of hours since he made the post
  • Transparency – There’s transparent elements all over the website, which works perfectly on the sandy gray background

I’m not going to give away all the areas of his website, but be sure to check out his portfolio, bio and photographs sections!

  1. Downright stunning!

    Best looking blog iv seen!

The logo looks awfully similar to OOBA though. Wonder how that happened?

  2. Hehe, ye Damien’s designs are always exciting and fresh! Well, his logo has been around for many many moons, so there’s no story there :)

  3. Thanks for this review Chris, always nice to read how others perceive a design. You’re on the money with that list on my home page, but I have a feeling it will be a mission to integrate the other services (Flickr, bookmark sharing, twitter, etc). Perhaps I should consider FriendFeed for that.

    HoTsTePPa: seen OGC? lol

  4. Wow, looks great at a glance, Coda has been an influence on me as well, in fact when I first started blogging I mailed him to ask for some advice. His site is great, thanks for tipping us off on the re-design Chris.

  5. Absolutely, his skills are mad, and I remember writing a blog post about SA guru’s and having someone leave a comment questioning Damien’s name being in the mix – this is proof that he should be!

No problem about tipping everyone off, I’ve been asking Damien and watching the domain for well over a month already..

  6. No problem Damien, it’s a magical design and one well worth the praise!

Have your say..
