Surely you can’t NOT see how irresponsible this is? Not only the fact that you actually drove that fast on public roads, but now you’re encouraging others to do the same.
There are some people who are easily influenced and will actually go out and try something stupid like this, cos they wanted to post a picture (taken while driving in excess of 200km/h) to beat some guy on the internet. And when something goes wrong, part of the responsibility will sit with you.
For your sake, I really hope that this is a prank.
I have a panel shot taken in a C172 doing just over 100 knots at 4550′. I’m sure I could get a higher reading if I wanted to, but if you do the numbers it just beats 200km/h, and my attempt was without trying – and more importantly, completely responsible and perfectly legal. Oh I had a passenger too, if that’s somehow important..
extremely irresponsible and what a bad, silly idea to post on a so called “well visited” blog (isn’t this suppose to be about Technology and Web Development according to the blog awards?! I guess thats a joke on its own) – won’t be too quick to visit here again.
i missed the post. yes chris… very very irresponsible. driving fast in a small car!
thing is… its cool to know that your car can go there if you wanted, but those things are too light bud. a pothole as deep as a side plate can send u rolling. I lost my cousin like that recently.
If you wanna race, pitch up at the drags outside UWC wkends after 2am. Theres some 1994 toyota corrollas that kick the shit out of Focus STs. Theres also a big turn out from the ST club, so u will fit right in! (And no, u wont be the only white guy there!)
i think everyone needs to chill the hell out… what most of you dont realise is that a modern car with ABS and traction control can perform 200% better than the highway code permits. therefore we could all be driving around at 240 and we’d be fine, if you have a crap skadonk car that is unsafe at those speeds, the get your ass all the way in the slow lane with your big girls blouse and leave the rest of us to go at haste!
Lol, what a joke this thread has turned into. I understand some people aren’t keen on the post, and that’s cool, I respect that and have removed the post.
@anonymous – I wish you’d not be too scared to name yourself, it would be interesting to know who the jealousy comes from and the misunderstanding of what a blog really is.
@Jt – Ye man, everyone gets so worked up so quickly, but then again, that was the idea, increases the traffic :)
Wow, so now that you are “famous” with the blog awards you have to limit your posts to Technology and Web Development or at least live up to the expectation of such – @anonymous – Get Over it.
Yeah, it could be irresponsible, but as well as arguing all the negative aspects to the post there are some facts to note. There is some evidence to support that one is more alert when speeding, because you know you are more likely to have an accident, and therefore you drive more safely as a result. Plus the positive points that JT made …
Also, its not the speeding that kills, its the sudden stopping :p
@Don – The one thing I have to say is that this place is a blog (web log), which is ultimately a personal online journal – This place is my life, my fans voted me into the blog award, they were not forced – No matter what a person does with a blog, no matter how niche targeted the blog is, it will always be a personal view point. Stepping outside the niche is the editors choice. I agree with you, I’m not going to all of a sudden syndicate Gizmodo, TechCrunch, etc. that’s never been the case and I refuse to change my style. Thanks for popping in and expressing your opinion, I do see the post as irresponsible and I probably should have stated that it was on a race track ;)
@SA – Learning from ones audience is the best way to do anything, thank you for praising my decision to listen.
@Lester – Not a problem, if my viewers want something or take offense, I am always more than happy to follow.
@anon – I think that you missed a very important point before passing judgment. This blog was nominated for THREE categories. Votes are made by the public and therefore the blogger has no control over which category he wins.
It could even be possible for this blog to have won in the category of best food blog, if the public voted in that way.
So by isolating this blog as being a Tech only blog removes from it the very freedom that blogging represents.
I admire the stand you guys took on what is right and what is wrong and I admire the reaction by Chris by removing the post. Handled in a dignified manner so hats off to Chris.
HoTsTePPa, thanks for actually clearing that up, you’re spot on. I didn’t ask people to vote for specific categories at all, it was a matter of public opinion.
It was only 200km/h bud, nothing major :) I reached a turn in the road and had to slow down unfortunately, hehe..
Have you taken her to the open road yet? You should take 2 days off work sometime and drive up country sometime when the roads are nice and empty. The N1 is a stunning drive in a new car! I’ve done it a few times since I got my car and it was only 2 days old when I first taught it to count to 250. I’v had a few near death experiences already and one involves an Engen petrol tanker, the pass just outside the Hugenot Tunnel and me testing the ESP settings.
I can isolate that moment as being the scariest shit I have ever done!!!
I drive a German and they have standing gentleman’s agreement to electronically limit it at 250.
Surprisingly, I am 10 times more alert when driving fast than when I’m cruising around in the suburbs. In fact, I could have driven over an old lady or two in the suburbs without even noticing it ;)
But yeah, when I think about it afterwards, it IS irresponsible and illegal!
Does any know about a substitute for the rush of driving fast? Something accessible, so don’t tell me skydiving or bungee jumping pls!
Hey Colin, good to hear from you man, how are you doing?
HoTsTePPa – Nothing like some good old adrenaline! I am also a hell of a lot more alert when I’m driving faster. Hmmm, I can’t think of anything else that’s more exciting, other than driving that speed when there is someone else driving along side you at that speed ;)

Hmmmm . . . ..
A public confession
The evidence to go with it
How interesting
Chris, hate to do this, but I agree, this is an extremely crap idea. You are breaking the law and asking other people to do the same. Bad move!! :(

Chris, I think you should pull this post. Lank irresponsible, and with a passenger in the car!?
Imagine if someone tries beating your speed and has an accident and dies because of it? Not cool dude.
Sorry! Very dissapointed with this one. Too many nutters in SA already.
The post is removed. I’m sorry you all felt it was a bad idea and yes, I saw it more as fun, but do agree that it was irresponsible :/

I’ve been reading for a while and will continue to do so.

Tut tut young man. Oh, and the “google.co.uk” entry in your “Live Traffic” is me – I missed the original post.
