Custom themes for the Wordpress Dashboard

It hasn’t taken long for Wordpress to become one of the most popular blogging frameworks around the world. I remember using Wordpress when it first came out and it was great, but the public hadn’t really got their minds around blogging and so things didn’t evolve (at first).

Over the past 6 months to a year or so, we’ve seen Wordpress turn into an almost completely customizable CMS (Content Management System) system. Watching guys like Mark and Adii customize the LAF of Wordpress shows us that it’s a system with endless boundaries. The increase in available plugins has also proven that Wordpress is capable of doing basically anything. Not to forget the great SEO tendancies.

Because Wordpress is becoming a framework which may be used as a CMS, web agencies are starting to build clients’ websites on the framework because of it’s dynamic nature and easy-to-use dashboard, which caters for multiple privileged users. Something that hasn’t really been tackled too much is the customization of the Wordpress Dashboard and Login Screens. If agencies are building systems for clients, I think it’s time that the dashboard be branded accordingly. I have spent hours customizing the dashboard of iMod and it really does make a difference. That being said, I have done some Googling and it’s clear that people have created dashboard themes, it’s just not as popular (yet) – yes, you can download themes for your dashboard.

Each and every day that passes sees us experiencing something new and amazing about Wordpress, with version 2.5 on the brink of being released, people are already talking about what they want in Wordpress 2.5 and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!

It’s going to be amazing to see how deep the rabbit hole goes!

  1. Yep I’m with you on the branding of WP dashboards – I think it’ll add tremendous value to client projects. The only problem is that it’s obviously not as easy to tweak the dashboard’s design, as it is with a general WP theme.

  2. Agreed, a complete brand will sell far better than just a frontend style sheet. Ye, modding the backend is rather tricky. I’ve played around, moved items to different places, etc. and it’s all possible, but just a lot more into the code, I guess you could say.

I can’t wait to see the new version of WP!

Have your say..
