From blogging to jogging – Part 2

Run around the world!

Yesterday I started my whole From blogging to jogging commitment and today sees part 2 of my venture.

I woke up this morning feeling rather painful, my calf muscles and thighs are taking quite a bit of strain! This evening I was sitting at the pool around 7 ‘o clock and suddenly realised it was jogging time, so I leaped up, grabbed some clothes, did 10 minutes of stretching and pushed through the pain to go on my second jog.

Amazingly, the jog went pretty well, my legs started to kill me as I reached the 15 minute mark, but I managed to job the whole way back home without stopping. I’ll let you in on a little secret.. yesterday I did take a 1 minute break during my run, but shhhht ;)

I must admit, my legs are completely FINISHED this evening and it hurts to even walk and let me not even mention the pain incurred when walking up the stairs, sjoe! It’s actually quite bad, but I think a nice pair of running shoes or cross trainers will help a little, although it is a good pain all in all. I’m excited with the prospect of this becoming a fixed venture in my life!

This evening I was told that I should only be running about 4 times a week, so I’m worried about the other 3 days and I’ve decided to draw up a small exercise schedule involving some weights, situps, crunches and the rest to create resistance and get these muscles going! I want a 6 pack again so badly, so I’m going to be working it!

Alright, well there’s the update, day 2 done, and I feel incredible!

Rad hun, well done. You know, it probably won’t ever stop burning, no matter how hardcore you get. But that’s what makes you fitter – working yourself and pushing your limits. Just ease into it gently, if you work too hard in the beginning you can mess up your training.

I have had days where I suddenly realised that I’d been training for 4 hours or so, and was still going. That kind of thing can be just as bad as under-training though, as your body can only take so much. Granted my session had included a 30 min warm up, an hour Muaythai class, another hour sparring, and an hour of gym time, but still made me careful of getting that balance right!

P.S. If you think you’re in pain, try jumping rope for 10 mins. Your calf muscles really love that shit, lol. NOT! :-)

Absolutely, I’m gathering as much information about all of this as possible and am definitely going to be taking it easy in the initial stages and slowly build things up!

Hehe, ya, sounds like you really did used to work it big time, get back into it! I will hopefully get to the stage where I am running for an hour and feel decent the whole way through, that would be awesome!

Jumping rope for 10mins, been there and done that for many months when I was training a lot and daaaaaaaamn does it hurt! I totally know what you saying, my legs are 100% fine compared to that kinda pain!

  3. hey, Chris, I could seriously do with some of whatever you’re on;-D (Oh bugger, I keep forgetting… it’s called youth.)

Rather you than me. I hate jogging, would much rather swim, but swimming and blogging just don’t rhyme :(

Pff.. I get tired just at the thought of jogging. I hate it. I rather bust my bum off in the gym doing body combat and that sort of stuff.

Mmm that sound’s like a good idea to start your day

    Just a little tip.

I know we hear this a million times when we were at school, but definitely try stretch before the time (prevents injuries) but also stretch properly AFTER your run – it helps with the muscles not being so sore the next day. When i was still proactive and doing the gym thing i remember the big difference stretching did after a work out or exercise.

But I’m no guru, just my 2cents.

Good work bro and keep at it. :)

    Layne – haha, I’m old! I’m almost 26! :P

Monty – I must agree, swimming would be great, but I only have a really small pool and refuse to drive to the gym to go swim at this point. Haha, they don’t rhyme do they :P

Sandra – Gyming is great and I’m sure I’ll start the whole gym thing soon, but at this point I just want to start something to increase my fitness :)

corrieroos – I would love to gym in the mornings, but it’s just not something I could do, so evenings it is, hehe

retrosaint – Ye bud, I’ve been stretching before I run and afterwards and then before going to bed. My legs were aching so badly, I just had to stretch them out. Today they are alright, still rather tight, but it’s a good feeling! Thanks mate, when you starting? ;)

Thanks for all the comments people!

I hate jogging personally. I will do interval jogging/walking on the treadmill but that is the closest I will get and even that is far and few between. I prefer the elliptical machines because they are easier on my knees.

  10. Chris M says:

Fair enough, I do worry about my knees from time to time, but will see how things go I guess. I need to get some running shoes!

Got something to say? Go for it!
