Living in a world, let alone South Africa, where race, religion and sexual distrimination are such touchy topics, I find it hard to believe that I found this blasphemy on Facebook. If Facebook is allowing such blasphemous entities, I wonder to myself what sort of example they are trying to set for the millions of people who frequent the site daily.
I personally take offense to this and I’m sure that millions of others will agree strongly with me. Without going on much more about it, here are some screen shots.

I understand that it’s easy to create a fake Facebook account, and yes it’s against Facebook Terms and Conditions, but didn’t Mark Zuckerberg and his team of, what I assume are, amazing developers think of blocking certain names? Isn’t that one of the first things any developer would do, such as not using passwords like ‘sex’, ‘god’ or ‘password’?
I almost feel that Mark is lucky that this is a stab against the Christian religion, because I can think of another religion (no names mentioned), which coupled with the fact that Facebook is American, that would take MAJOR offense and DEFINATE action.

I think you’re overreacting. Any website is bound to have this sort of thing, and honestly it’s only blasphemy if you take it seriously. This page has 12 fans. 12 is a tiny, tiny number on the internet, and it’s not causing much of a threat. If any other religion would take action or offense at this, that religion is behaving illogically and is a very poor example to apply to Christianity.
Fair enough. I still stick to my guns though, it’s not about how many people are involved with the profile, it’s just about it’s presence. It’s offensive.
Thanks for popping in and leaving a comment :)
You want religion to have a good name? Don’t send hate mail to dissenting views. Thats childish. “If you don’t believe what I do, then I hate you!”
Welcome to free speech.
We have the right to make groups like that. To and for, different views, no views, whatever. As long as we don’t go around spamming people with differential views, as I understand the terms, we can make as many of them as we want. Apparently, everything except groups of a sexual nature. But I don’t want to get into my soapbox about that.
The profiles, eh, that might be against terms, but it’s not hurting much really.
I think you’re overwhelming. But I’m also the chick that just overlooks them and keeps going. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink.
My two cents.
Dude calm down. Here is a little secret. God is dead. He died in a bloody battle involving the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy and the Flying Spaghetti monster.
Mmm, a topic which will most certainly cause some controversy when mentioned even in a whisper. I think the main issue is that whether ur religious or not, people on both end express their views many times with hate or insult as their main objective and not so much to get the view across in a way it can be engaged and discussed. The controversial views are usually those which are expressed without care or concern for the process of discussion or debate. People just don’t know how to speak to each other, and they use their most treasured beliefs in order to attack each other rather than enlighten each other.
Unfortunately things like this are bound to happen on sites where users create the content. The profile should be reported and Facebook should act accordingly. I don’t like when people impersonate God, Jesus or any other religious figure.
I’m with you on this one Chris…
This is unacceptable.
Well, I guess this is one of those things which is completely open for discussion. I do not force nor preach religion upon people. I have my views and opinions and I stick by them, but that will never stop us from having a discussion.
As long as things stay under the category of ‘discussion’, then it’s all good. It’s when it becomes an argument that things get out of hand.
Thank-you all for your interesting views!
ahh dude… i think your over reacting as well… shit happens people do bad things and shit will happen, why give yourself gray hairs..
Now thats my opinion. But yeah i do agree we need controle and yeah facebook people could have stop people adding the name god but i actually think they forgot about it. So don’t go attacking the facebook guys. send em a mail witch i am sure u have done and it will be gone…
Ye Simon, I hear your point. I actually had a little bit of an different motivate for this post and that was too see how many people were going to defend Facebook – it seems clear that people favour Facebook in a very large way, which I find hilarious!
Thanks for popping in mate!
hate mail? dude… chill. I’m not sure I want to put my required email here anymore
