People don’t believe
For the past couple months, I have been pushing and pushing my online marketing and affiliate marketing, and I’ve seen my monthly revenue increase dramatically. Due to this, and my writing on Web Entrepreneur, a number of people have started asking questions, obviously people want a piece of the pie, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. What does bug me, is that my answer is simple: read, understand, apply – yet people just won’t take my advice – I’ve spelt it out loud, is everyone just too lazy to read? Read a bit, get paid a bit! Get a lot, get paid a lot! Simple! ;)
Three simple verbs, and you too could be earning a nice bit of monthly pocket money.
I started my Web Entrepreneur website at the beginning of this year, as an online study case, where everything I learnt and taught myself, I stored online, rather than a scrappy notebook. The fact that I made around R15,000 online last month was not because I’m a complete genious, and not because I’m a web guru, it’s because I took the time to read hundreds of articles online. I read articles written by the top bloggers in the world, and put together my own articles based on everything I learn from them. My articles on Web Entrepreneur are simple and too the point – reading an article is not a long winded process, and after reading three or four articles, you should have a good idea on how to take your web venture to another level.
Give it a bash, do some reading, and slowly start to earn a revenue from your website. If you only make R100.00 a month, is that a bad thing? Nope! It’s R100.00 more than you would have had, isn’t it? I think you see my point. Work at it, spend time reading, learn how to place adverts carefully and correctly on your website, and you too could earn a couple thousands rand a month!

Oh, I so agree. People, in general, don’t like to read. They want answers and they want it now. We are living in an instant gratification society and so people want fool-proof, step by step instructions that gives them immediate results, and is fun and entertaining.

Miguel, perfectly put. I was like that too. I was “fortunate”, at the beginning of the year, I crashed my car, and was without transport or anything to really do during the day (I was a student, I don’t attend lectures), so I had a good couple months of free time, and during this period I decided to spent as much time reading and collecting knowledge as possible. I was doing freelance web development at the time, so I was normally at my computer, which made it easier to access online articles too.
It’s taken quite a while to get anywhere with affiliate marketing, but what I do always say is, your revenue increases with time, as your sites get more indexed, more traffic comes, which leads to more potential revenue.
It’s such an interesting system! Thanks for the comment Miguel, great to see someone reading my material, and what better than a web addict!

[...] recently wrote an article over at iMod, entitled “People don’t believe“, which is about earning money online, trying to share your knowledge with others, and them [...]

That was very zen of you to see the good in a bad situation, and time well spent I’d say.

There’s definitely an element of luck present too ;)

Or, like they say luck favours the prepared :)

How much of your profit comes from cyber-squatting facebook.co.za? Great work ethic…

As I have mentioned, I will not disclose which sites are bringing in the most revenue.
Something to take into account here would be converting traffic. Advertisers would not pay thousands and thousands for a campaign (especially a click campaign), which is not converting.
That said, a site which is being squatted upon, would not convert traffic, unless there was a specific campaign, which could work for that particular site, which in my opinion would be very rare.

Agree with the cyber-squatting comment, which you don’t respond to. You’re clearly good at making money legitimately, so maybe it’s time to cut down on the dodgy stuff?

“Dodgy stuff” ?

Advertising on some porn sites? :)
Sep 3rd, 2007 at 4:29 pm
just to confirm… From what I gather this article relates to making money off ad placements only? By this I mean e.g. your R15K last month excludes contracting works (design, develoment, etc).
Am I correct?
Lastly, I agree and my strategy is to read, understand, internalise (what will work for me and when do I effect what – I signed up with trafficsynergy some months back, but my gutt feel was not to put any ads yet untill lastweek Friday only), implement then monitor, then all over again.
It is early days for me still…

Ag Miguel – Don’t give away all my secrets bud! ;-)
NoTiTo – your initial assumption is correct. Congrats on signing up – The TrafficSynergy team is fantastic, and they will help you and guide you through the process. I’m not sure what stage your website/s is/are at, but don’t go wild with the advertising, slowly add ad units, and monitor all of your statistics very carefully!
Best of luck! Feel free to contact me if you need anything either :)

I think by dodgy he / she meant the alleged “facebook squarting” but in my opinnion you are generating leads and punting facebook (how much are they getting from the “free SEM you are doing for them?). Sure make a bit off it while ur at it…
You can’t exactly call this cybersquarting.
However it is an exceptional case and with a bit of luck on your side so it shouldn’t be taken into the equation with this article and money made off there should be taken out of the R15K…
Ta for stopping by my site, maybe you can give me your thoughts? You got’s my mail mos…

Squatting.. I just love that word. lol.
No problem, had a look around your website, one thing which came to mind immediately, was the writing on your header design, I don’t think the white font does it justice. Just a thought, use it, don’t :)
Thanks for all your comments NoTiTo

me thinks often the only difference between ’squatting’ and ’speculating’ has to do with whether or not the speaker stands to profit :-)

Very true AndreSC, I didn’t really think of it from that way, but now that you mention it, it makes a lot of sense.
I think a lot of it is fueled by jealousy too, which goes fairly hand in hand with what you said about making a profit, what do you reckon?

Some of it yes, our little cyber-pond being relatively young there’s a lot of ‘positioning’ going on. In itself not a bad thing but in the hast to be first to break a story or to portray being an opinion maker/leader I think some of us succumb to the fact that it is so much easier to criticize and denounce than being constructive.
The rest of it is just good old link-bait, which is fine. No such thing as bad publicity provided it is managed effectively. I think you’ve done well all things considered.
That said I’m curious what happens to the info you capture on the home page of facebook.co.za?

Morning,
It’s true, South Africa is still very much behind the rest of the world, and as the days go, so do the coza domain names. It’s actually so interesting to see how many coza domains are actually still available!
The facebook coza site will inform all the users of the new site release, the minute the code is completed and running again successfully.
Have a good day Andre
